Granddad Shoemaker
Granddad Shoemaker's mother died when he was in the eighth grade and the family had to split up because Louetta's illness bankrupted Jacob.  Granddad's baby sister, Louise, went to live with an aunt in Indianapolis; his dad moved in with his brother, Worley, and granddad stayed with the Huffmans, who were neighbors.  Not sure where Granddad's three brothers stayed.

Granddad graduated from eighth grade but never went to high school.

He married my grandmother, Reba Loretta Masten, on January 7, 1930.  He worked for Lone Star Cement in Greencastle in the 1930s as a machinist.  He played on their baseball team; his secret desire was to be a baseball player.  He was also a member of their First Aid team.  He lost his job during the depression
and sold popcorn door to door to make money.
