Granddad Shoemaker was born December 29, 1905 in Floyd Township, Putnam County, Indiana. His parents were Jacob Henry and Louetta A. Shoemaker. He was the 4th of 5 children(oldest to youngest): Joseph (1893-1955), Dwight (1896-1952), Frank (1902-1952), James Carl (1905-1960), and Mary Louise (1909-1951). He also had a sister, Margarette Helen, who died only a few days after birth.
He was called "Carl" by family, and that's how he legally signed his name, but everyone else called him "Jim" or "Jimmy."
